Major record labels and recording contracts

What a major label? A major label is one that requires a high fraction of sales annual retail discs and has cast its own system. Perhaps you've heard of Warner Elektra Atlantic, BMG, Sony and Universal Music & Video Distribution? Well, There are four major brands out there.

Markets majors may be a dream over yours, but that means you need to hurry to sign the dotted line. Follow some of these instructions so you know the facts and the right questions before signing.

1. A & R: Better known by the name of artist and person directory. Search little history about this person. Find out who helped secure the signature, all of whom have worked with and for how long and worked for the label in question before signing any contract for the music business.

2. Understand your options. And it means that regular old options. I refer to the "Options" or the number of records that are required to register. According to one study, the average is five to eight cases.

3. Be would be interesting to sign contracts with major labels, but finding a few things first. Want to discover the number of records that the label including reported each year. That is important because you must have an idea of how advances you receive. Do not sign with a label which seems overwhelmed. (No matter how much you are, not to be subjected to the background!)

Now, let's review some clauses in the contracts register which can be confusing or unrecognizable to the average Joe:

1. Never heard of the article point man? Okay, there you have the right to terminate your contract if certain he / she left the label. There is another aspect of this, if a designated member of his group out of the Contracts Act, then the music can become null and void.

2. Auditing and accounting section is crucial. You must ensure you have access to books that contribute to income and outflow of dollars. The same is true for accounting, you may want to make certain statements financial statements are presented to you on a regular base.

3. Would you consider that the clause in their contracts accompanying the music business? This often allows the band to the studio work on the side. Most times, if not included this clause, their record company may be prohibited to work with another band or a label on separate projects.

4. How many records are recorded and how long? "There is a term specific contracts involved on your record? This is known as a term of the contract.

5. Finally registration expenses and progress. These provisions are essential, as it is about money. Time recording and time equals money. Do not leave control to the recording of costs because the chances are contracts of music will tell you that you have to pay this back. The same goes for cash advances. Progress in life, transport, videos, etc. .. all will recover, so a word to the wise is not to lose control! Save your partying expenses until they are a success!

These are the rules of the game! Consider this when deciding whether to sign with a label. Do not let your dream affect your decision. Your career is the most important and can be ruined by the company with the wrong people! Be smart and good luck!
